After sharing with you about my shopping experience at Ladies Market – Hong Kong in my previous post titled Shopping in Hong Kong: My Personal Thoughts and Experiences Part 1/2, today I will be sharing with you my other worthwhile shopping buys during my trip in Hong Kong.

I also suspect that this particular shopping place that I will be sharing with you is a place whereby some blogshop or online shopping site owners, or shops in Singapore get their supply from.

I bought various things in Hong Kong. From Maggie Noodles, yummy goodies to pens to clothes.

When I first saw this Spongebob Square Pants pen I was shocked by the price. This is because it is a 5 coloured 1 pencil stationery. I have always wanted to buy such a function stationery in Singapore but it is always very expensive. It will cost about SGD$10.

Fans who are subscribed to my page would have found out the cost of this stationery. I have purchased this stationery at the cost of about SGD$1. Yes, I’m not joking =P

Next shopping buys are some apparels. All are bought at the price of about SGD$10 each. Materials of the apparels are relatively good too.

So where did I buy most of the apparels at?

Where is this place that I talked about that I suspect some blogshops owner may get their supplies from?

It’s this place!

This place is called New Town Mall. It is at the junction of 2 streets (Argyle Street and Sai Yeung Choi Street South). If you are taking the MTR, alight at Mong Kok Station.

New Town Mall is indeed a place for ladies.

What you can buy at New Town Mall

1) Apparels

2) Shoes

3) Socks

4) Bags

5) Undergarments

Mainly it is like a building mainly for ladies. Its about 4 storey if I did not remember wrongly. If you really want to shop, you can take about 4-5hours there. If you are a shopoholic, and you are not tight on your budget, you can spend a longer time there

My thoughts about New Town Mall

The current trend there seem to be flowery apparels, therefore I only managed to get these few.

Shoes there are really good deals and many unique designs. Undergarments are really cheap and good deal too.  Some apparels there are unique. Price range for apparels there at most shop is about SGD$10-$30.

I saw a number of apparels there that I have seen at some blogshops or online shopping site. The price that they sell on the site could be about SGD$20, but the same apparel is sold at about SGD$10 there. I’m sure if you do buy in bulk, it may even be cheaper.

Anyway, if you do visit Hong Kong, this place is a MUST Visit for ladies.

I feel this place is the best shopping place that I have been to when I was in Hong Kong. I bought the most thing here. (haha!)

Other shopping places in Hong Kong are so-so in my view. I must confess, i’m sure I have not been to all the shopping places in Hong Kong. However, for those places that I’ve been to, this is my best deal!

In Conclusion

Hong Kong is really a place to eat eat and eat. They have very yummy food. Shopping really depends on where you go to. Also, I have not shared about my other shopping expereince at Hong Kong such as food deals, goodies deals etc.

If given me a chance, I would try to visit the not so ‘tourisy’ spots in Hong Kong to explore further. I’m sure I will discover exciting stuff and good and best deals.

Hello my loyal readers, I’m really sorry for the very long delay and long awaited post. Have been having a no. of assignments and things on hands, therefore have not been able to blog. Here I am again! If you are reading this post, welcome back =)

I’m taking a break today from my usual review post on blogshops and online shopping sites and I will share with you about my shopping experience in Hong Kong in May 2010.

Hong Kong is known as a shopping paradise to many. I have recently made a virgin trip to Hong Kong and I conclude that only certain places are good shopping places while some may not be.

In Hong Kong, you need to know how to bargain especially when you purchase things on the streets.

In this post, you will get to hear about my shopping experience at Ladies Market- Hong Kong and tips to shopping there.

Any idea what this is?

Yes your eyes are not playing a trick on you. This is a Hello Kitty Cake!  I didn’t managed to take photos of other cakes. I saw cakes shaped like a handbag, high heels at the cake shop.  Is it really creative of them to come up with such idea?

Indeed unique, I don’t see such cakes in Singapore actually.

Next stop in Hong Kong.

This is like a shopping centre. Things sold there are priced mid-ranged. However, i did not managed to spend a long time there. The only impression it left me was a shop that sells interesting gadgets and stuff. A little like this particular shop at Illuma Bugis called Amoeba.

Streets in Hong Kong look like this:

The interesting thing is, one one side of the road it looks like the former. While just across the road or a street across, you see this.

What a contrary isn’t it?

Worthwhile shopping buy at Ladies Market- Hong Kong.

We purchased these luggage at about  SGD$70-$80. Two luggages, one big one small. These Winnie the Pooh Luggage were bought at Ladies Market. I feel this is the best deal and items that you can buy from the Ladies Market. Other than these, things there were not really unique, nor cheap. And the quality of the items there wasn’t really good too.

You could get the same item, with a cheaper price and better quality at this place called “Fa Yuen Gai” or also called ‘Hua Yuan Jie”. you can click here to find out reviews and how to get there. This is open in the day as compared to Ladies Market which is usually open in the evening. Apparently somebody have the same opinion with me with regards to Ladies Market.

Tips to shop at Ladies Market

1) Walk around first if you have the time

Ladies Market is a long stretch of road. You will noticed almost a number of stalls selling the same item but of different quality or price. If you have the time, walk down the street to have a sense of what they are selling if it is your first time there.

2) Do not ask for price first or show interest in the purchases

If you do ask for price and decide not to buy, if you turn around later, you will lose your bargain power.

3) If you are really curious to check out how much they are selling..

Ask casually. “How much is this?” and then walk away.

Do not even attempt to bargain first.   This gives you a gauge on what their initial price quote is.

4) Bargain

Yes that the word. Bargain! Do not even show that you are really interested to buy and please contain your excitement that “if you don’t buy you will die look” ahhaa.. If you show that, you have lost your battle.

5) Bargain again!

I’m serious. Often the price that they quote initially isn’t what the final deal is. Just because you are a tourist, and that Ladies Market is a tourist attraction, the price is so much higher. If you are daring, cut the price that they quote by half.

The amount that you quote at your bargain should be lesser than what you are ready to pay for. Truth be told, often you have to negotiate your way around for win-win situation.

6) Be able to risk not buying the item at all

Only when you are able to risk it, you get a better buy.

Applying the tips to shop at Ladies Market

I saw this ladies bag at Ladies Market and they quoted me be about SGD$40. I saw the same bag somewhere else in Hong Kong that was selling cheaper and even better quality. Therefore, I decided to try my bargaining tips.

I had the mindset that if only they sold me at less than SGD$20 I would buy it. After using the tips that I have just shared, and she was not relenting to it, I walked away.

She actually shouted from afar and got me to come back to her stall and she sold it to be just at the price I wanted. =P She even had to call her boss to check if she could sell at the price.

Can you believe it, this is how much they actually mark the price up. hhaaa!

This blogshop that I will be sharing about is a Fashion Spree Organiser based in Singapore and they sell items mainly from Japan, Korean etc.. I must comment that some of their items are indeed nice and I did consider buying something from them.

But this same blogshop had almost hit my no deal rating due to the experiences I had with them.  I gave them a chance and I had sent 2 potential mystery shoppers. Read on to find out more about this blogshop and also about my experience with them…

I have first found out about this blogshop because they have asked me to review about them.

Design Template

Essentiel Boutique had made an effort to design their own custom header.

I like the idea of their categories too. They even have a column on online shopping security tips. I was indeed attracted to it and was impressed with it.

Focus and Content of the Blogshop or Online Shopping Site

They are rather focused in organising sprees. They essentially did not target any particular audience. Some of the sprees that they are organising are couple tees, ladies apparels, bags etc.

Here’s some of their items:

Customer Service

My experience with them was based on the follow up of the blog review invitation.

After the first email that I have received from them with regards to the invitation, I had replied them to said that I would do a review on them but had told them that my reviews would include both the good and bad reviews and asked if they would still like to be review.

However,  I did not received any reply. I decided to give them a benefit of doubt and send another email to check if they have received my email earlier. Weeks later I received a reply apologising that my mail had gone into their junk and they are still interested for me to review about them.

Fair enough, I replied telling them to be reminded to save my email address to their address list so as to prevent this from occuring again. Followed by it, I had sent my email interview questions to them, to let you my readers find out more about them.

Weeks later, I did not receive their replies. I sent another email to them to check if they had received it, and till now, about 1 mth later, I have yet to receive any reply.

Seriously, how frustruating can this get. If you have invited someone to review about you, and you realised that you have not received any reply, wouldn’t you check out your junk mail just in caseye.

Furthermore, you are an online blogshop. Should you have a potential customer who sent you an email enquiry and it went to your junk mail, what will happened?

With this incident, I wanted to give them a straight no deal rating. For the matter of fact, if you are not comfortable with the email interview, you could always let me know you see

Nevertheless, I decided to give them a chance. I asked a mystery shopper to send a enquiry to them. They replied the shopper 2 days later.

Thinking perhaps it was a yahoo mail fault as they did not received mine. I got another mystery shopper to send an enquiry to them via yahoo mail. About 2-3 days later, they replied her.

Therefore, it really leaves me wondering, what happened to my email. Could it be that the mail was lost? Or perhaps, they wasn’t interested? In fact, I had wanted to purchase something from them. But with this encounter, I did not. Because if they could not even reply my email, what will happen if I purchase anything from them?

Best deal?

Giving them a chance as they had managed to reply my 2 mystery shoppers,  I will be giving them a nice deal instead of a no deal.

Their price range from SGD$18-$29.

However, do be prepared to have a chance to be ignore should your mail enter their junk. Nevertheless, do share with me your experience if you have any with them

Whether you are shopping online or in the physical shop, don’t you agree with me that one of the X factor that makes you stay on or even to introduce the shop to your friends is the customer service and trendy cheap clothes.

Well, I found a blogshop or online shopping site that fits the bill. Even though the variety of the blogshop or online shopping site’s apparels could have increase, but the owner was not slip shot in her customer service and also provided trendy cheap clothes. Well done!

Peony Petals has a simple design template. Honestly, the first impression of the design template did not stand out.

However, she did attempt to create her own custom header.

I particular like a category which she had included and made an effort in. That is “What’s available”. In this category, you will be able to view what are the apparels that are still available from their past collection.

A brief introduction about her blogshop and ordering info was also included. That proved to suffice a potential customer which is new to her blogshop or online shopping site.

Focus and Content of the Blogshop or Online Shopping Site

She is generally focused on women apparels, and it seem majority are dresses.

The designs of the apparels are towards the trendy sweet or demure kind.

Thumbs up! Indeed as she had hope to make her customer’s process of purchase a happy one, she had done that for me.

I had a number of concerns, with regards to the the size of the dress and even the cost of it as then it was on sales. Nevertheless, she was very patient with me.

As she knew that I had concerns with the size, in the parcel received, she wrote a note to thank me for purchasing from her and hope that the size will fit it.

Sadly, it didn’t because it was a little short for me and abit tight.  I sent her an email to thank her for her great service but unfortunately the dress didn’t fit me. Look at her reply:

” Hi Shanetta,

Happy to hear from you but of cos, not the bad news that the dress didnt fit as well =x Hope you’ll be able to sell it off, if that’s what you’re intending to do. Give you all my good luck!

I’ll try to look out for longer dresses in future!

Thank you for your compliment and it certainly gives me more energy to work harder for peonypetals. Heh.

Peony Petals, deserves a best deal because of the excellent customer service. For the price of the product the quality was great.

The price range of the apparels are between SGD$16.50 – $25.

However, it would have been better if she had provided a wider variety of apparels.

I have come to my last post for my Inexpensive Christmas Gift Ideas Series. To find out more on what were the Christmas Gift Ideas that I have been sharing about, you can view here, where I discussed 7 categories of inexpensive christmas gift ideas.

After reading this post, you will get to know on another blogshop or online shoppping site that sells Hong Kong and Japan Fashion Apparels at affordable price. They also sell other items but I will only focus on apparels for this post….

Design Template

My Pretty Closet has a simple template with a nice custom header. Basically, they used a picture of one of their models and included their blog address on the header picture.

Navigation around the site is simple.

Due to the design template constraint, only certain number of items can be show on the page. Therefore, not only loading of the pages can be a little longer than usual, you have to click “older post” to view more picture.

You may also appreciate the fact that they introduce their models to you. The model profiles such as their height and measurement are included.

This allows clearer picture for you and myself when you want to purchase an item from them. You no longer need to make a guess on how tall the model is and whether the item is too short for you.

Now you just have to check back on the model’s profile who is posing for the item that you are interested for a clearer picture if the items fits you.

Content and Focus of the Blogshop or Online Shopping Site

They are focused on reaching out to ladies. They also have an extensive range of apparels for you to choose from.

The apparels are trendy and some are also suitable for business casual wear.

Here’s some of their designs:

Do you agree with me that their apparels are trendy? Suitable even for wearing to a christmas party. Moreover, the pictures are very clear too.

They also make an effort to include details of the thickness of fabric and material of fabric on the apparel. Thumbs up for them!

Customer Service

I have yet to have any shopping experience with them. However, I am interested to purchase something from them in time to come.

Best Deal?

It is a good deal even though I have yet to have any shopping experience with them. This is because they have an extensive variety of apparels and the effort they have to include the details of the apparels.

Their price range is between SGD13.50-$32. Majority of the apparels are above SGD$20.

Sunnanz has a blogshop or online shopping site that is clean and professional looking. They are very transparent about themselves. They share who they are, why you should choose them too. Moreover, they are a registered business in Singapore.

You might also like the way they write and share about themselves. It is transparent, clear and short. They sum everything up into 10 reasons why you should shop with them.

Focus and Content of the Blogshop or Online Shopping Site

They target women. Therefore their products are items like beauty products, bags and clothes. I will only focus on the bags for this post. They have both instocks and pre-order items.

They do have a variety of bags you can choose from. You might like it that many of their designs are big enough for A4 size paper. =)  The best part is they are instocks.

Customer Service

I have no encounters or shopping experiences with Sunnanz at the moment.

Best deal?

As I have no encounters with their customer service, Sunnanz will be a nice deal. However, they have the potential to be a good deal. Their prices are reasonable. They present themselves very well which makes them professional as a blogshop or online shopping site that you may trust your money with. What do you think?

The price range for the bags are SGD$16.80 – $30.00. They are currently having a promotion for some of their bag designs and I may consider getting from them.

I will be sharing with you my experience with 5 blogshops or online shopping sites. Amongst this 5 blogshops or online shopping sites (BeautiFeet, Jkorean, Jesnesz Paradiz, The Pasar Malam and ShopLah).  I have made purchases from 3 of them.

You will get to know about their efficiency and their customer service. Read on to find out more…

#1 BeautiFeet (You can read my review about her blogshop or online shopping site here)

Verdict: Superb customer service

She was very patient with the many queries and request I have. Indeed a very nice owner with good creativity skills.

I wanted her to customise a pair of shoes for me, yet I was not specific in my request. I only gave her 3 guidelines.

1. I would hope to wear the shoes to work
2. Able to wear it either with black or white pants, therefore hopefully it will be a half black, half white shoes.
3. I would like some drawings on my shoes, not just plain colours.

Outcome:

Not only did she managed to come out with a pair of pretty shoes for me, she even met me in person to pass me the shoes. She was also very concerned if I like the design of my shoes.

Here’s my item (please pardon the images as it was taken from my hp)

After thoughts: When I first saw the shoes, it did not give me the “Wow” factor. She had also forgotten to remove the shoe straps. I felt quite disappointed. However, when I’ve returned home. I took a look at the shoes again and I wore it. This time round, the longer I looked at it, the better it was. Ultimately, I concluded. Wow! the shoes are great even with the straps on.

Total waiting time from order to reaching me -> 2 nov – 25 nov(23 days)

In conclusion, I shall recommend BeautiFeet to anyone who likes unique handpainted shoes. BeautiFeet remains at Best deal.

#2 Jkorean (You can read my review about his blogshop or online shopping site here)

Verdict: Relatively slow in updating of status, but he made it a point to compensate. Overall, customer service still rated as  average to good.

Here’s the details of my order status with him:

Total waiting time from order to reach me -> 24 Oct – 20 nov(about 1 month)

19 Oct -> Enquired about item

21 Oct -> Sent another reminder enquiry as I did not receive a reply. Received reply that he needs more time as he is checking with supplier

24 Oct -> Item is available, made payment

9 Nov -> Checked with him on my item status. Replied that the item should reached him tomorrow, and I can meet up with him during the weekend. Very kind as initial meet-up was supposed to be City Hall but he agreed to meet at Dhoby Gaut instead.

14 Nov -> Realised that he is rushing for a project and will not be able to meet up with me. He will give me a free registered mail.

15 Nov -> Will let me know when he sent out the item

18 Nov -> Enquired when he will send out the item and had expressed the need for me to always prompt him to update the status of my item

19 Nov -> Sent out the item to me

20 Nov -> Registered article reached me but I was not home to received it.

26 Nov -> Finally retrieved my item from the post office.

After thoughts: If you are willing to wait for your item and is not in a hurry, you can buy things from Jkorean. However, I do hope that he can be a little more proactive in status update. Nevertheless, JKorean remains at good deal.

#3 Jesnez Paradiz (You can read my review about her blogshop or online shopping site here )

Verdict: Jesnez is very proactive and open to feedbacks about her blogshop or online shopping site.

Soon after the review of her blogshop or online shopping site was posted on my blog, she traced from her live traffic feed where viewers from her blog came from. She managed to find out about my blog and about my review about her.

She sent me an email to thank me. She also heeded my suggestion by being consistent about PayPal in her ordering info. Well done!

Some reader asked if they were still existent as they have not updated any collections recently. I have just enquired and was notified that they are currently on hiatus and will be back in December 2009.

Verdict: Customer service could have been more personal. Could have been more proactive in updating status of items and stuff. Downgrade to good deal

I have initially gave them a best deal for the range of apparels they have and also their efficient reply. However, after I have placed an order with them, the time taken for my item to reach me was very long.

After order was taken, they have mentioned that item will reach them in 7days and it will take them about 2-3days to reach me. So let’s use 10days as a gauge.

Details of my order status with them:

Total waiting time from order to reaching me -> 25 oct – 24 nov(about 1 month)

25 Oct -> Ordered item

3 Nov -> Received email that my item is out of stock, I can choose to replace my item with another one or request for a refund.

4 Nov -> Requested for replacement of item. Have an amount difference which require a refund. No idea where I can request for the refund because the email refund link was for total item refund. Enquired how I can go about doing it

6 Nov -> Received a reply, and here’s what they say: “Yes, Please fill up the refund form so that we can refund you the excess money of the difference.” That is equivalent to not answering my question. Anyway by then i have figured out how to request for the refund.

8 Nov(can’t remember if this is the exact day as I have deleted the email) -> I received another email, giving me the link to request for refund

20 Nov -> Enquired about the status of my order and I have not received it.

21 Nov -> Received an email telling me that my order was being mailed recently and I will be receiving my item soon.

24 Nov-> Finally received it

After thoughts

The item was packed properly and item looks exactly like what the model was wearing. Therefore, good job for that. However the reason for downgrading them from the best deal to good deal was because of the customer service, and long waiting time.  ShopLah did not meet my very good and efficient customer service. I would have been more accommodating if they had not promise about the 10days waiting time.

I came to know Versuaz because they have contacted me to review their blogshop or online shopping site. I declare that I have not received any renumeration by reviewing about them. I felt that you might be interested to purchase something with them because of the prices and apparels that they are offering.

For your information, Versuaz is not based in Singapore but in China. Therefore, shipping cost is the only concern. However, read on to find out more about them and I’m sure it will benefit you. =)

Design Template

Versuaz has a simple and professional design template.

There was an “About me” to find out about them, but I felt that they could have written more about themselves. I have initially thought that they were based in Singapore. However, when I found out there was shipping cost I realised that there were not based here.

Proper categories were used for you to navigate around. There was also a particular function called “Add to compare”. You get to choose a few apparels you like, click the compare button and the system will show you the comparison of the apparels. That is so useful don’t you agree with me?

There were also clear indication of materials and sizes of the apparels which is very useful too.

Focus and Content of the Blogshop or Online Shopping Site

They are very focused on women apparels. There is a decent variety of the apparels but more could be added for working clothes, pants and skirts.

Nevertheless, the apparels that are available are trendy and cheap.

Customer Service

I must comment that they were very prompt in their replies. I did not enquire about any of the apparels. However, my experience with them through the email because they have contacted me was very formal. I would have hope that they were less formal in the language used.

Price comparison

I’m sure this part will interest you.

Do you remember in one of my post Women Fashion Online Shopping: Korean and Hong Kong Fashion, I introduced a blogshop or online shopping site called ShopLah, i saw an exact same dress, with the same model at both Versuaz’s and ShopLah’s blogshop or online shopping site.

Would you like to make a guess on the price difference?

Alright, here’s the answer. The same dress that is sold at Versuaz is selling at SGD$12.62 and ShopLah at SGD$23.90. Yes! A price difference of SGD$11.28.

Wait! Just before you think ShopLah is making such a huge profit, or Versuaz is a scam site. Here are some reasons for their price difference

1. Versuaz is a wholesale blogshop or online shopping site
2. The price that i have written SGD$12.62, has not include shipping cost
3. ShopLah is a blogshop or online shopping site and it is only right for them to mark up the price a little for their profit isn’t it?

Nevertheless, an average price for an apparel at Versuaz is about SGD$15. If a minimum quantity of 10 pieces is needed plus shipping cost, here’s the calculation:

1 apparel -> SGD$15

10 apparels -> SGD$15 x 10 = SGD$150

Shipping cost for 10 pieces -> USD$34 (SGD$47.20)

Total cost -> SGD$150 + SGD$47.20 = SGD$197.20

Average cost for 1 apparel -> SGD$19.72

Best Deal?

It is the best deal even though I have not purchased anything from them. If you have a group of friends that you can pool your order together, or you are on a shopping spree and is willing to part with about SGD$200, Versuaz will be to your liking. Their price range from SGD$11 – $34. Dresses range from SGD11-$16 and the others cost less than SGD$20 with an exception of a few coats that is selling at about SGD34. This price range excludes shipping cost.

Fadsetters provides clothes that are affordable and have designs that are relatively trendy.

They have a striking custom header which speak it all on what are available for you.

Aside from the invalid date that i have mentioned in a few of my previous posts, their general design template is fine.

The concept of all customers including you and me is, as long as I understand the navigation around, the designs and quality are good or unique, I will stay on to browse more isn’t it? Of course putting aside the most important factor of safe online shopping.

Content and Focus of the Blogshop or Online Shoppping Site

Some of her designs like what you have seen are suitable for work, while others may be more suitable for casual wear.

Her dresses a quite short, so if length of 71cm is too short for you, you will be disappointed.

I like this floral dress, but it is way to short! So it is only for my viewing only. What about you?

This jacket looks good too. On days when you are too lazy to dress up or if you are short of formal looking top, you might like to have this jacket to wear over your top. You will be very pleased with the price of the jacket. It is only selling at SGD$18. Wow!

Customer Service

I did not enquire about anything at the moment. I am currently in the saving money mode. Therefore this column of customer service may be empty for the next few blog posts.

Best Deal?

I feel this blogshop or online shopping site will be your good deal. Their price range from SGD$10- $20. Indeed a very good deal.
