Email Interview #14: Chicadale

I have reviewed about Chicadale in my recent post titled Women Fashion Online Shopping: Chicadale. In this post, I conducted an email interview with them.

1) Could you tell me more about yourself? How was your site created? Any other team member behind your blog shop’s success?

Chicadale was founded in mid May 2010 and currently managed by two sisters, Deon and Pei Si (:

We created our site ourselves, though we had no knowledge of website design to start with But we did find our way through to come up with a website design that’s as simple yet comprehensive as we can.

Hmm, I would say that our mum has a lot to do with the start-up of our blogshop since she supported us financially and taught us a lot on choosing quality apparels and spotting defects. She was a seamstress, so she had a lot to share in this area (: I think the suppliers have known us to be very picky for defects because we always check our stocks at the suppliers’

2) What is your blogshop or online shopping site offering? (Share at least 3.)

Chicadale focuses on offering a wide of apparels, for school, work and parties. So it translates into our customers having rompers, shift dresses and lovely frocks to choose from (:

We love to refer to trends but tend to choose designs which we feel will stay trendy for longer and most importantly, comfortable.

3) Which is your best selling item? And tell me more about it. (Preferably provide me a photo of at least 250 pixel in length)

That’s a tough question! We do have a few items which are selling better than others but even then, they all suit different occasions. We’re really glad that our customers come from all walks of life (:

I think our personal favourite amongst the best selling items has to be our High-Waisted Peplum Skirt, which we brought in for our second collection and had to bring it in again in our third collection in a different colour and size (:

I guess the reason why it sold so well was because it has a subtle design that really suits well for work. A simple and classy design!

4) Could you share one tip that your site have to ensure safe shopping online?

We always try our best to give our customers a peace of mind when shopping with us (:

All purchases made with Chicadale.com come with a unique invoice number which they can use to track their parcel status on our parcel tracking page. This applies for customers who opt for normal / registered mail and gives them confidentiality while giving them a peace of mind in knowing whether their parcel has been mailed (: All parcels sent via normal mail come with certificate of posting, of which we absorb the cost.

In addition, our blogshop uses an external form system for customers to submit orders and payment details. This allows auto-generated invoices to be sent to them upon order submission.

Everytime a customer submits her payment details through our form system, an auto-generated confirmation email is sent to her so she knows that we have received her payment details and it’s pending verification on our side.

The system also allows inventory tracking, so our customers would know that an item is pending or sold if we are unable to update item status fast enough.

We find this system really good and affordable so it really suits us as a start-up. But one problem is that there’s a limit to the number of items we can have in each form, so we have to do manual invoicing for items on our ‘Available Items’ page. We’re currently in the midst of finding a solution to this issue with the administrator (:

5) One last online shopping tip you want to share with my readers.

To have a measuring tape with you so you can gauge the sizing of our clothes accurately (:
