1) Could you tell me more about yourself? How was your site created? Any other team member behind your blog shop’s success?

I’m a long-time shopaholic who has been bargain-hunting for real Korean fashion online. Good things must share, so recently I’ve decided to start a blogshop (hehe…since I’m shopping for myself, may as well buy a few more pieces right?) I figure it’ll help people who like Korean-quality clothings, minus the pain of shipment, fund-transfer, risk of items not arriving after payment etc (and help me earn a couple of dollars for the trouble).

2) What is your blogshop or online shopping site offering? (Share at least 3.)

Authentic Korean brands, boutique-quality pieces (comes with tags, extra buttons and the works) and affordable pricings.

Our last collection consisted of Korean brands exclusively imported by us, so is the collection that we are preparing to launch.

Avid Korean fashionistas will probably be able to identify with some of the brands we bring in.

The next collection has arrived and I am very excited

3) Which is your best selling item? And tell me more about it. (Preferably provide me a photo of at least 250 pixel in length)

The Pink Romance is our best selling dress so far….although I really can’t say since there’s only two collection!

4) Could you share one tip that your site have to ensure safe shopping online?

I’ve found another Online Shopping Security Tips Video which will benefit you. Even though the video’s context is in UK, certain tips can still be useful for us who are in Singapore.

If you have not viewed the video that I have shared with you in Online Shopping Security Tips Video – Part 1/2 do take a look at it as I believe it will benefit you.

Here’s a summary of what was shared in the video for your convenience:

#1 Make sure your computer have up-to-date anti-virus software and firewall installed

My comments: Indeed this is so important. You will definitely need your anti-virus software and firewall even though you do not shop online. What’s more now that you are shopping online?

#2 Choose online retailers and services you know about

My comments: If you know them, there is less likelihood that you may be cheated.

#3 Look for unbiased reviews about the online retailers

My comments: This is so important.There will be no credibility if the reviews are biased. At SG Blogshops Review, I aim to provide unbiased reviews for you my readers. Do let me have you comments and feedbacks, I really appreciate it.

#4 Thoroughly check their terms and conditions and privacy/return policy

My comments: This can really be helpful and useful. But sadly, many blogshops do not have this, especially with regards to return policy.

#5 If you can pay by credit card, pay by credit card

My comments: I would suggest, if you can pay by paypal, it is even better!

#6 Use a secure website

My comments: I have mentioned in Online Shopping Security Tips Video – Part 1/2 that in many case of blogshops in Singapore, this is not possible. We usually make payment via i-banking.

Nevertheless, when doing your i-banking transfer, do take a look at your URL making sure that it begins with “https”.

#7 Print out a copy of your order and the confirmation email

My comments: You need not exactly print out, you can save the earth by saving the copies in your PC.  For added precaution, in case your PC crash, do back up your data.

#8 Check your bank statement carefully

My comments: Do remember to check your statement. If you notice any strange happening do alert your bank.

I used to work in a corporate world and got tired of it. And being a “Fanatic Jewellery lover & shopper”! I decided to set up this online business with a friend. As stated in “About us” in the website, we understand the agony of purchasing jewellery that we love because of its price. Therefore we decided to bring in ourselves the most affordable and top quality fashion jewellery without all the extra overheads!

2) What is your blogshop or online shopping site offering? (Share at least 3.)

a) Our mission: We offer the Hottest & Fashionable Jewellery of Today!

b) Our site is slightly different from other website as we offer full range of costume jewellery such as Earrings | Necklaces | Rings | Bracelets. Our wide range of jewellery appeals to diverse customer tastes from high class Cubic Zirconia jewellery, Swarovski Crystal Jewellery, Semi-precious Stone Jewellery to low cost costume jewellery.

c) Both of us came from Service Industry, therefore we know the importance of providing value-added services to our customers. We are not just another online store. We wanted to provided valuable information/knowledge about Jewellery to customers such as latest trends, guides, fashion tips, rules to wear jewellery, and care and handling for their jewellery.

We do not review customer’s personnel details under our Privacy & Security section. Customer are not required to provide us their banking details when making payment to us, with this safety precaution in place customer are ensure that their banking detail are well protected.

5) One last online shopping tip you want to share with my readers.

We understand purchasing online do have some risks, but having said that it also leave some excitement while waiting for your item to arrive & the best part is that shopping online is just a click away, easy and convenient! Buying online also saves you some bucks as the price offer here is better than retail shop.

An online shopping security tips video sharing by a Google Support Engineer.

For your convenience, here’s a summary of her sharing:

#1 Be cautious when you order online

This is because you will definitely need to give away your personal information if you purchase something from them.

#2 Give your personal information to places where you trust

You can ask yourself the following questions:

• Is the company /organisation which runs the website well known?

• Do you have friends of relatives who have ordered from the site?

• Have they had good experience?

• Is the site affiliated to a brick and mortar store that you already know?

If the answers is yes for one or more questions, it is probably a safer bet than an unknown site.

My thoughts: That is so important. However, do note in shopping online, there is definitely risks involved. Are you willing to take the risk?

#3 Read the ratings of reviews for the site

Reviews can give you some information about the reliability of the vendor.

My thoughts: I have shared this in my ebook too Many times, reviews can give us a sense of the reliability of the vendor. Check out forums or do a search on it. You never know what you may find.

#4 Check out the privacy policy of the site

Are you comfortable with the privacy policy? Or do you understand the privacy policy?

#5 Make sure that the site you are sharing your personal information at is protecting your information by encrypting it

You can tell a site if it is encrypting your information by looking at the URL. The URL should begin with “https” rather than “http”

My thoughts: Sadly, with many blogshops this is not possible. We make payment via i-banking. Nevertheless, when doing your i-banking transfer, do take a look at your URL making sure that it begins with “https”.

#6 Avoid shopping online or making any sensitive online shopping transaction from public computers

Public computers may not have the security measures like firewalls or anti-virus softwares that you’ve enabled on your computer. Therefore, entering personal information on them may put you at risk

#7 Keep records of your orders to track your purchases

My thoughts: This is indeed very important. Keep track of your payment too.

I have reviewed about SkranchieZ in one of my recent post titled Trendy Hair Accessories – Skranchie. In this post, I conducted an email interview with the owner of the blogshop, Annie.

1) Could you tell me more about yourself? How was your site created? Any other team member behind your blog shop’s success?

I am a 30 year-old homemaker and a mother of two girls who has a passion for sewing crafts. I am also a huge environment supporter and are trying my very best to help mother nature in whatever ways I can.

One of my mum’s friend, who is a dressmaker, decided to retire. She wanted to throw all the leftover materials away just like that. I told her I had this idea of buying them over and she was delighted. At the time, I had no time at all to put these materials to use as I had to juggle between my children, hubby and mum-in-law. After being put aside for 2 years, finally I can squeeze out some time to do this. I also bought some of the materials from tailor shops in Temerloh, Pahang.

I am a lone ranger in scrunchy making. No help from anyone at all. Sad but proud!

2) What is your blogshop or online shopping site offering? (Share at least 3.)
My blogshop concentrates only in handmade scrunchies. These are not just a normal scrunchies you get in shops. First of all they are handmade. And they are produced from leftover materials/fabrics bought from tailor shops.

Besides that, my blogshop also offers some personal experiences related to environment for my readers.

3) Which is your best selling item? And tell me more about it. (Preferably provide me a photo of at least 250 pixel in length)
Since my blog is quite new, I have not sold a lot of scrunchies yet, but my best seller is as attached.

It is priced at RM14.90. Three pastel colours strings (not ready made strings) made from polyester cloth are knotted into flower knots (chrysanthemum) and paired with polka dots materials for a little playfulness look. This is actually one of my favourite picks. I own one of them and received quite a number of positive feedback on it here in Temerloh.

4) Could you share one tip that your site have to ensure safe shopping online?

All payments are made either by Paypal (overseas customer) and Maybank Online transfer (local customers). Besides that, the photos taken on my scrunchies resembles the real one. I provide a close up view on my scrunchies to ensure customer will not regret later on.

5) One last online shopping tip you want to share with my readers.

Never trust the photos that are taken directly from catalogues (from Japan, Taiwan) for example like dresses. Photos taken by the blog owner on the product will resemble more of the real product than catalogues.  Ask for close up photos (normally taken with 7 megapixels cameras) before paying.

I will be sharing with you a blogshop or online shopping site that specialise in selling eco-friendly bags. The designs of the eco-friendly bags are also great looking. They can be a Christmas Gift Idea for you or your loved ones.

Design Template

Enviropolis offers a wide range of eco- friendly bags both to the Singapore crowd and the international crowd. The design of the site is professional looking. Which includes clear navigation tabs and allowing you to know that they offer overseas shipping too.

I realised they have a particular section titled “product” which could be very useful to you. They describe the five different brands of eco-friendly bags they have, which includes the features, materials,  and dimension of the bags. This provides you with a glance on which brand you should explore on according to your preference.

What could have been improve slightly was with regards to postage fee. There wasn’t any guidelines about the pricing should you opt for normal postage or registered postage. All you will know is that they do delivery in Singapore.

Focus and Content of the Blogshop or Online Shopping Site

Indeed very focused. Like I have mentioned earlier, they have a variety of the eco-friendly bags from five different brands. These brands are

1. Envirosax from Australia
2. Baggu Bag from USA
3. Flip & Tumble from USA
4. Crutto from Japan
5. Roo-Shopper from Japan

Aren’t they so nice that you are tempted to use these instead of the usual plastic bags?

They also offer payment by Paypal, which is a safe shopping online option. I have mentioned about Paypal on my post in 8 Tips to Safe Online Shopping. Unlike other blogshops or online shopping sites who usually request their customer to pay an additional fee for using PayPal, there was no indication in Enviropolis on this matter.

Customer Service

Unfortunately, I do not have any experience with them on this matter.

Best deal?

It is a good deal even though I have not had any customer service experience with them. This is because they have a wide range of eco-friendly bags and they are the only blogshop or online shopping site that I have came across selling eco-friendly bags for five different brands.

The irony is that if eco-friendly bags were supposed to help you save the earth, I always wonder why is the price of the bags sometime so costly. Anyway, the price range of the bags are between SGD$10.90 – $30.00 for an eco-friendly bag. They also sell by a set of 5, for certain Envirosax series, which is priced at SGD$45.00.

Conclusion

If you are open to the idea of owning a light, foldable, heavy duty and pretty eco-friendly bag, this is the place you should go to visit. This will be a great idea to give as a christmas gift too for your loved ones. I would have purchase a number of them if it wasn’t for the price. =)

Before you click the Pay Button for your online shopping cart, I believe it will benefit you to know this story of an online scam.

K.Sayuri aka Diana Koh Scam (Jailed on 13 August 2009)

This lady is called Diana Koh and she is 21 years old. Apparently, she hawked branded accessories and handbags such as Coach bags at bargain prices on her blogshop or online shopping site. She never delivered the bags even though she had received the money from her customers.

She was jailed on 13 August 2009 for three months for cheating 37 victims in March.

One of the blogshops she owned was k-sayuri.blogspot.com. The site has been shut down. Blogspot had even blocked anyone from registering with that block address.

My Findings

I did a search on google about her and had discovered 2 blogs that followed the progress of her scam and even listed a list of the other blogshops or online shopping sites that Diana Koh owned.

There was supposed to be validation on how she realised that the other blogshops was owned by Diana Koh but it is a pity that the photobucket account was inactive and the picture is no longer available. Nevertheless, you can view the blog to have a quick look at it.

I am not sure if all the blogshops that are listed by this lady really belonged to Diana Koh but i found a forum thread that mentioned that Diana Koh owned this other blogshop or online shopping site name Dstyle-Fashion which is not found on blogspot now. This blogshop or online shopping site was also mentioned by the lady who wrote about Diana Koh’s scam too.

Browsing through the list that was given by the lady, majority of the blogshops could not be found by blogger. Only these are available:

1)http://esabee-biz.blogspot.com/

2)http://www.fcup-jp.blogspot.com/

3)http://effairee.blogspot.com/

4)http://www.fibrena.com/

Interesting, 1), 2), 4) are selling similar items. Hmm, do you wonder does these blogs really belongs to Diana Koh?

Anyway, I do hope that the lady had done her due diligence to ensure that the blogshops do belong to Diana Koh. Otherwise, it is going to be bad publicity.

Learning Points

I mentioned in 8 Tips to Safe Online Shopping, the power of reviews and feedbacks. Do check out reviews about a particular blogshop or online shopping site. You can also participate in forums and ask if anyone have any feedback of a particular blogshop or online shopping site that you visit.

Fraud stories like such is really scary. As much as we try to shop safely online, sometimes we still do fall prey to such. All the best in your online shopping experience.

Ever wondered what are the payment mode choices you have when you are shopping online? Perhaps you have heard about it but have no idea what it is really. I will be sharing with you 5 Common Payment Modes All Buyers Should Know to solve your mystery of what are the options available for you when you shop online.

#1 Internet Banking

This is most commonly used for blogshops or online shopping site in Singapore. If you have an account with DBS/POSB, UOB Group or other banks, you can make payment via Internet Banking Services to make purchases. You simply need to transfer the total amount for your order to the  seller’s bank account via the fund transfer option.

Majority of blogshops or online shopping site seller will usually have an account with DBS/POSB banks. Therefore, payment via Internet Banking Service to their DBS/POSB account is more common.

Tips: Do remember to print out your transactions or write down your transaction reference number. You can even save a copy of the email that you sent to the seller with regards to your confirmation of the Internet Banking fund transfer.

#2 Payment via Credit Card/ Debit Card (Online or Offline Mode)

This mode is less common amongst blogshops or online shopping sites who have just started out or are not established. The Online Mode is more common than Offline Mode. The Offline Mode, provides a value-add service for customers.

Online Mode

Payment by Credit Card/ Debit Card via MasterCard or Visa. You have to enter your card number in order to make purchases. To promote safe online shopping, some blogshops or online shopping sites supports Verified by VISA and Mastercard SecureCode.

Verified By Visa and MasterCard SecureCode enable two parties (card holder and card issuer) to authenticate each other by exchanging electronic identifications before proceeding with an online transaction. This assures the Cardholder that he is dealing with a legitimate merchant and it provides the merchant with proof of participation of the real Cardholder. This gives both parties the confidence to proceed and creates a digitally signed record of the transaction that can be verified afterwards. It protects you against unauthorized use of your card when you are shopping online.

Tips: Do remember to print out your transactions or write down your transaction reference number.

Offline Mode

If you are worried about the security of your credit/debit card transaction online, some blogshops or online shopping sites make Offline Mode available. A delivery personnel will bring along the credit/debit card swipe terminal to your location upon delivery. The actual card holder will need to be present at the point of delivery as a signature is required on the transaction slip.

Tips: If possible, do not meet the delivery personnel at a secluded place.  If for convenience you need to meet the delivery personnel at home, do try to have someone else home with you.

#3 Third Party Payment Methods (eg. PayPal)

Payment via PayPal is best for those who wants to enjoy both security and reliability.

PayPal provides an extra layer of insulation between you and the seller. You provide your payment details to PayPal, which then makes payment to the merchant without revealing your financial details.

However, not all blogshops or online shopping sites seller have this option because they may incurred a small transaction fee from PayPal. You will usually find PayPal option available on blogshops or online shopping sites who are keen to made business with customers who do not resides in Singapore.

#4 Crossed Cheque

This payment mode is less often seen, as many blogshops and online shopping sites in Singapore are patronised by late teens or young adults. They are looking for cheap and good deals to save money. They may not owned a cheque book too.

There is usually a clause about the time period that your cheque needs to reach the seller.

Tips: Do note when you send out the cheque. Also remember to ask seller to reply with confirmation when they receive your cheque.

#5 Cash on delivery

A very conventional method and well accepted by many as you will be less skeptical whether you are buying from a scam. This is most welcomed by shoppers. You pay using cash which you will collect upon delivery. This allows accountability and security to be fulfilled. You get to see your purchases, check your purchases and pay the seller.

However, not all blogshops or online shopping sites provide this mode because it requires and tax on their manpower.

Tips: To protect yourself, please meet your seller at a place that is not secluded. If your purchases are bulky items and you need to meet the seller at home, do try to have someone else home with you.

Conclusion

I personally recommend you to use Cash on Delivery if the blogshops or online shopping site have this mode available. This is because you get to see the seller and also get to check on your purchases in the presence of them.

If this option is not available, try PayPal. If PayPal is not available, use Internet Banking, because you do not need to provide your Credit/Debit Card number.

If you are not residing in Singapore, PayPal will be the preferred option for you.

Tips for international buyer: If you are really keen on a certain item from the seller but they do not provide PayPal mode, send an enquiry to them. Let them know you are really interested to purchase a product from them. They will usually be flattered. Ask if they can make PayPal available for you. I’m sure if the seller is keen to retain customers, they will make this available for you

Are you hesitant about shopping online because you wonder if it is safe? I will be sharing with you 8 Tips to Safe Online Shopping. You might like to consider these before you purchase something online.

#1 You can try using a pen name

Sometime you are not comfortable with sharing your real name till you get to know the owner of the online shop or blogshop better. It is perfectly ok to use a pen name.

Having a pen name allows me to differentiate who this people I am in contact with are. I am usually known as Shanetta online. Therefore, if I received an email or a call who addressed me as Shanetta, I know that the person met me through online avenue.

#2 Use a different email address

Do not use your business email, or email with very important and confidential emails. By using another email account, you not only get to filter where the email comes from, you need not worry that much about your emails being infected by strange spam emails or viruses.

#3 How long have the online shop or blogshop been around?

Is this online shop or blogshop set up yesterday? A month? A few years? The longer the online shop or blogshop exist, the least risk it may be, because others would probably have tried it.

#4 Check for reviews or feedbacks about the online shop or blogshop

Word of mouth is very powerful. To check the reliability of the online shop or blogshop, sometimes all you need to do is to go to your favourite search engine and check if there are any reviews about them.

If they are reliable, people will review or feedback about it. If they are not reliable, people will also talk about it.

#5 Enquire about the item you would like to purchase before jumping straight to the buy button

Send the owner an email. Enquire about the item you are interested to purchase. You will get a sense for yourself if their customer service is good, whether they know their items well or if they are reliable. To give them a benefit of doubt, if they do not reply within 3 days, send them an email again, stating that you are just wondering if they have missed your email.

If the online shop or blogshop takes a week to reply your email, don’t bother buying from them. I would suggest you go somewhere else. What kind of customer service is that?

#6 Does the online shop or blogshop allow you to pay by PayPal

PayPal does not reveal your credit card number. Therefore, paying your item by PayPal decreases the risk of allowing the other party to know your credit card number.

For many online shops or blogshops in Singapore, internet banking transactions seemed to be more common. Remember to keep a copy of the transaction that you have done for verification purpose.

#7 Are you willing to part with the money?

Truth be told, as much as we try to decrease the risks of online shopping, the risks will still be present.

For example you are purchasing an item that cost SGD$30. Would you be willing to part with the money should it be a scam? If you are willing, go for it.

Personally, whenever I purchase something from an online shop that seemed unknown, I asked myself, “am I willing to part with the money?” if my answer is yes, I will go for it.

#8 Take some risks

If you have considered the 7 tips above, take some risk. If you really like the items from the online shop or blogshop, and the deals are really good, try taking some risk.

At the end of the day, you may gain and benefit from it. You get to know whether the online shop/ blogshop is reliable and you get your good deal. Isn’t it best of both worlds?
